Sharing the Gospel effectively across different cultures requires more than just translation of words; it involves deep understanding and respect for the cultural context of the audience. One essential tip is to immerse yourself in the local culture—learn their language, customs, and values. This approach helps in communicating the message of Christ in a way that resonates deeply, avoiding misunderstandings or cultural offenses. Additionally, building genuine relationships within the community fosters trust, allowing for more impactful and heartfelt sharing of the Gospel.<h3>Adapting the Message Without Compromise</h3>While adapting to cultural nuances, it is crucial to maintain the core truth of the Gospel. This means conveying the message of Christ alone, without diluting it to fit cultural preferences. Balancing cultural relevance with biblical integrity ensures that the Gospel remains transformative and true. Using stories, analogies, and local expressions can make the message accessible while upholding its essence. The goal is not to conform to human traditions but to present Christ in a way that touches hearts and leads to genuine discipleship.

How to Effectively Share the Gospel Across Cultures

In 2024, missionary strategies continue to evolve, driven by technological advancements and a deeper appreciation for cultural sensitivity. One notable trend is the increased use of digital platforms to reach unreached people groups, especially in areas where physical presence is challenging. Virtual discipleship programs and online Bible studies are becoming common, allowing for broader reach and ongoing nurturing of new believers. Moreover, there is a growing emphasis on training local leaders to sustain the mission work long-term, highlighting the importance of empowerment rather than dependency.<h3>The Shift Towards Holistic Mission Approaches</h3>Another significant trend is the move towards holistic mission work that integrates spiritual, social, and physical needs. Missionaries now focus not only on preaching but also on addressing issues like education, healthcare, and community development. This approach reflects the understanding that discipleship involves nurturing the whole person in their cultural context. It also aligns with the belief that the Great Commission includes nurturing new believers, helping them grow in faith and become active members of their communities.

Emerging Trends in Global Missionary Work for 2024

Life as a missionary is a blend of spiritual dedication and practical challenges. A typical day might begin with prayer and study, seeking guidance and strength for the tasks ahead. The rest of the day involves engaging with local communities through conversations, teaching, and sometimes addressing immediate needs such as health or education. Flexibility and patience are essential qualities, as plans often change based on cultural events or unforeseen circumstances. Despite the difficulties, the reward lies in witnessing lives transformed by the Gospel and new believers growing in their faith.<h3>Behind the Scenes: The Cost and Commitment</h3>Beyond the visible activities, a missionary's work involves considerable personal sacrifice, including time away from family, financial constraints, and emotional struggles. Understanding the cost is vital for anyone considering this path. Yet, the commitment stems from a deep conviction that the true Gospel transcends human institutions and traditions. The daily discipline of nurturing new disciples and embodying Christ's love in diverse cultural settings is both challenging and profoundly fulfilling.

My journey with Christ began when a genuine disciple—still a close friend—shared the Gospel with me and spent countless hours helping me to become a true follower. Less than a year after my baptism, I was leading a church from my music studio in the heart of the city's railway network, made up of artists, art students and others who’d first heard the Gospel from me. That was only the start; some of them have gone on to become pastors, leaders, and spiritual parents to hundreds of people they've since shared the Gospel with.It’s no wonder, then, that I believe Christianity isn’t about preaching once, ticking a box and moving on, nor is it about building business empires or large institutions. It is about Christ, and about making real disciples at a grassroots level through natural relationships, by walking alongside them—just as Jesus and the apostles did.

<h3>A Privilege</h3>I had the privilege of serving as artistic director on a project in New Zealand, which culminated in a month-long photography exhibition. Beneath the country’s beauty, I encountered a serious issue: widespread anxiety, depression and high suicide rates. The aim of the exhibition was to increase understanding and offer hope to those who struggle themselves, or who have loved ones facing similar battles. <h3>True Stories</h3>We met a number of people living through these realities who were willing to share their stories. We documented most of them, and some were brave enough to have their stories public presented. <h3>The Way We Presented It</h3>Each piece consisted of two parts, supported by photographic reconstructions. The first image and text shared the background — the causes of burnout, mental collapse, spiritual despair, or in some cases, suicidal intent. The second showed where the person was at the time of the exhibition, and what happened in between — how a journey that seemed destined for tragedy was interrupted, and life continued. <h3>A Miracle</h3>In some cases, the fact that someone survived was hard to describe as anything other than a miracle. These stories are deeply encouraging and strengthen faith.

I’m a missionary with over ten years' experience in evangelism and church planting across various countries and cultures. I'm passionate about sharing the Gospel with people who wouldn’t normally dream of setting foot in a Sunday service, or who are actively opposed to the Christian faith. Recognising the importance of language and cultural context, I often take a more unconventional approach.

Pioneering in Christianity

This presentation was prepared for The Salvation Army. It shares just a handful of the many occasions when God has granted me the extraordinary privilege of serving as His instrument.

<h3>Responding to real needs</h3>What I admire most about The Salvation Army’s approach to pioneering is its ability to identify pressing contemporary issues and respond effectively to real needs as they emerge.When James Barker realised that entire families—including children—were producing matches with a toxic ingredient that led to necrosis of the jaw and bones, The Salvation Army boldly decided to purchase a match factory. Their goal was not profit but to compel the entire industry to change. I can only imagine the impact on the workers who benefited, not only from the replacement of harmful yellow phosphorus with a safer red variant, but also from an extraordinary 50% wage increase. Many of these workers must have wondered who would act so generously with no profit motive, and I am certain that, through this example, some came to understand Christ’s love and became believers. Following this, manufacturers abandoned their claim that switching was too expensive, resulting in industry-wide reform. What an inspiring illustration of pioneering and of expanding the boundaries of God’s Kingdom.Although match factories are no longer a primary concern, I continue to admire The Salvation Army for recognising modern problems that many prefer to ignore—such as child trafficking and modern slavery—and for pioneering solutions.<h3>Personal Examples of Grassroots Pioneering</h3>Let me offer a few personal examples of grassroots pioneering that, if not already employed by The Salvation Army, might serve as potential ideas:<h3>Neverland</h3>Shortly after I became a Christian, while studying and living in the European Union, I discovered a large, multi-generational community near a newly built housing estate—hundreds of families with children were living in World War II-era buildings scheduled for demolition, many of whom were affected by domestic abuse and alcohol dependency. I had as little experience with vulnerable families as James Barker had with match production, yet I also understood that God often chooses to work through imperfect people who trust Him, revealing His power, compassion, grace, and love to others. Recognising a pressing need, I prayed for guidance and soon joined friends in establishing a lively centre devoted to supporting these children. My greatest joy was seeing some of them attend our Bible study, come to faith in Christ, and request baptism.<h3>Art as a Transformative Tool</h3>Understanding how profoundly art can reshape perspectives, I organised intensive, year-long workshops in painting, photography, animation, and video for the children from “Neverland.” They proudly displayed their creations at the “Neverland Exists” exhibition in the city centre, earning appreciation from peers and the wider community. Watching them gain confidence, discover their unique talents, and recognise their potential powerfully demonstrated art’s capacity to change lives.<h3>Diaries of despair</h3>After completing a missionary school in Germany, I was invited to support a missionary branch in one of the world’s most beautiful locations. To my shock, I discovered that beneath the beauty of this city and its entire region lay a serious issue—widespread anxiety, depression, and high suicide rates. These struggles remained largely taboo, especially among Christians. Despite the risks of “opening Pandora’s box,” I felt God calling me to address this issue alongside my friends. Together, we organised an exhibition, sharing stories of real people from the region who had faced these challenges but were saved by God. The event provided people with understanding and hope. At the time, I was unaware that more than 100 years earlier, in 1907, Alice Barker, wife of James Barker, had pioneered The Salvation Army’s international anti-suicide network. What incredible courage!<h3>Identity crisis</h3>Many people are unaware of their potential, their true identity in God, and the purpose of their lives. As a result, they often fall for the world’s lies about them, leading to personal tragedy. Realising this, I established a cultural space offering a wide range of artistic workshops, exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, and live interviews with artists, musicians, and public figures—all free of charge and funded by City Hall and the Ministry of Culture. The impact was extraordinary...<h3>Spiritualism and witchcraft&nbsp;</h3>Another major issue is how children are drawn towards spiritualism and witchcraft through consumer culture. It is tragic that Halloween, a festival focused on darkness, is more widely marketed to children than Easter, which represents light. I can imagine hosting outreach events in London at this time of year, guiding young people to understand why playing with fire is extremely dangerous and pointing them towards Christ instead.<h3>Using the enemy's tools</h3>Growing loneliness, social media addiction, and the isolating effects of virtual reality and gaming culture are also major concerns. Support groups and retreats exist for those who have identified the problem, helping them reconnect with other people, nature, and God. But what about those who haven’t yet recognised the issue?A great solution would be to use the medium itself:<ul><li>Create interdisciplinary exhibitions in virtual reality, offering an immersive way to engage with faith.</li><li>Develop the first-ever Christian RPG video game, akin to Fallout or Cyberpunk 2077, that is both visually appealing and theologically sound, leading players to experience the Gospel through gameplay.</li></ul><h3>Summary</h3>To be a Pioneer in Christianity is, I believe, the same as it was for Paul the Apostle. After his personal encounter with Christ, he refused to compromise with darkness. Calling himself a soldier for Christ, he risked not only his comfort, reputation, and career, but his very life. With the boldness of a lion, he planted the banner of God’s Kingdom in unclaimed territory. He, along with many others, gave everything—but they emerged victorious, securing the greatest reward of all: an eternal relationship with our beloved God.

<h3>In my case, it was need — specific circumstances — that sparked the idea.</h3>Those situations showed me that, for the Gospel to be proclaimed effectively, the tools and methods must be adapted to the audience. That requires a flexibility similar to Paul’s. Whether I was reaching musicians, visual artists, university professors, attendees at the largest festival in Europe, patrons of satanic clubs, the homeless, or children, God taught me to use the right tools and language so that the Gospel would be understood and lives would be genuinely transformed.

The hero has to be a monster is a highly controversial title, in the same way that the title of my dear friend Phil’s book, Kill Your Art, is highly controversial. What I would say is that the hero first has to realise that he was a monster — and understand who he used to follow back then. Then he has to realise who he is now, after being born again, and who he should follow from now on. What I observe is that many Christian men have become softened, passive and emasculated. They are not happy about it, but they seem to believe that Jesus was like that, so they do their best to become the same. At the same time, mainstream agendas around so-called hate crime and hate speech have become so broad that someone can be arrested in the supposed centre of free speech in London — Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park — simply for daring to say that, according to the Bible, homosexual practice is sinful and reflects a deep spiritual brokenness. My meetings with men have helped them realise that we are born as boys and infants, and unless we deliberately focus on becoming men, we remain infants — as many men do, including some of the most famous ones. These meetings have also helped reveal, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, what kind of man Jesus really was, and how we can and should become more like Him.

<h3>It started with a vision</h3>Between 2015 and 2016, in Poznań — one of Poland’s largest cities, situated between Berlin and Warsaw — the ID Foundation, which focused on helping people discover their unique, God-given identity through art, culture and unconventional approaches, launched an ambitious project: a large arts hub in the city’s most challenging district, known as Lazarus (much like William Booth’s work in the darkest parts of London). The aim was to break the cycle of children becoming teenage hooligans and teenagers becoming criminals, and to help reshape the area.<h3>Bring to life</h3>The Foundation’s president named the project NEO-Lazarus&nbsp;— officially to signal a new chapter for the Lazarus district, but, as he shared only with a small circle of trusted Christians, also as a call to use this platform to bring spiritually dead people to Christ, so that He might raise them to new life and make them new people devoted to our loving Father. Knowing it would immediately put off many otherwise curious visitors, NEO-Lazarus was intentionally not promoted as a Christian initiative.<h3>Unique combination</h3>The concept combined elements of the Ancient Greek Academy of Plato (bringing together different disciplines), the German Bauhaus movement and school (reimagine the material world to reflect the unity of all the arts), and the mid-20th-century Suzuki Japanese teaching&nbsp;method (which reveals the unique potential in everyone).<h3>Free of charger?</h3>Located in the heart of Poznań and based in a 7,500 sq ft space, it set out to develop talent and deepen cultural understanding. It encouraged visitors and regular students to explore different art forms and cultural expressions through an interdisciplinary approach, welcoming a diverse audience including children, teenagers, students, adults and older people, and offering a wide range of professional cultural and artistic initiatives. Everything was completely free of charge for visitors, funded through grants and awards from the National Department of Culture, the City Hall Department of Culture, the City Council and private donors.<h3>On the top of that...</h3>...the heart of NEO-Lazarus was a carefully chosen group of mature, proven followers of Christ, who intentionally built relationships and friendships with participants throughout year-round lessons, workshops and events delivered by both passionate practitioners and recognised industry professionals — musicians, producers, travellers and guest speakers.<h3>Feedback</h3>It became known as a unique hub where the line between everyday people and show-business professionals blurred, nurturing fresh creative minds and offering significant development opportunities regardless of background or wealth.<h4>Our fruits and the input of Christianity Explored</h4>Over four years, we hosted more than 300 events with over 1,000 attendees. An even greater achievement was seeing beneficiaries discover their identity in God, many shared how their outlook was completely transformed — shifting from passive non-believers or even atheists to conscious followers of Christ who decided to use their gifts to share the Gospel. Several went on to arts-focused secondary schools and universities, graduated, and launched creative careers. Others moved from beneficiaries to assistants within ID Foundation organisation. Some connected so strongly with the vision that they joined the board, received training, and became coordinators of later projects. Their personal growth may not have been possible without NEO-Lazarus and Christianity Explored project which we found very useful.

For years, I lived by the ‘tent-maker’ model, convinced—like so many others—that Paul had paid his own way entirely through manual work. I did just about every job imaginable, from running the whole organisation to cleaning the floors. Despite an academic background and multiple qualifications, I often took on roles many would consider menial for someone with my diplomas.To bankroll the projects I was leading, even with a few generous patrons, I regularly worked 20-hour days, surviving on four hours of sleep, often across several countries at once. For years, I went without a proper break or holiday, believing that to help those in need and fulfil God’s plans, I had to earn every single penny myself.

<h3>Indestructibility</h3>What I failed to grasp is that indestructibility is not one of the gifts of the Spirit. Years without proper rest, sleep or holidays became a ticking time-bomb. By God’s kindness—and the timely help of Dr Henryk Wieja, the musician MateO and a handful of close friends and relatives—I came through with my health and faith intact. Others I knew were not so fortunate; our next coffee will have to wait until the resurrection.<h3>Examining Paul's case more carefully</h3>Those hard seasons pushed me to examine Paul’s example more carefully. Could he really plant churches in far-flung cities, live among new believers, disciple them and still finance everything by sewing tents? A glance at first-century travel costs says otherwise. Sea voyages were the preserve of the wealthy: ships had to be built, crewed and provisioned. Sailing then cost far more, proportionally, than hopping on today’s budget airlines. So Paul must have relied on the generosity of others. <h3>An exception</h3>Paul made a point of saying that earning his own keep was the exception, not the rule—a choice he made to set an example for the new believers. It wasn't the approach taken by other disciples and church planters.Acts 18:3-5 settles the matter. In Corinth Paul made tents with Aquila and Priscilla during the week and preached in the synagogue on the Sabbath. When Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia with a gift, he “devoted himself entirely to the word”. Cross-checking his letters confirms it: the Macedonian believers had underwritten his ministry (2 Cor 11:9; Phil 4:15). Their support freed him to spend eighteen months church-planting in Corinth, a city not unlike modern London—commercial, pleasure-mad and morally adrift.<h3>Tavistock Youth Gender Clinic</h3>London, too, is crying out for hope and truth. For instance, the Tavistock Youth Gender Clinic, branded a “gender-affirming” service, it fast-tracked vulnerable children towards medical interventions. The Cass Review found that clinicians often accepted a child’s self-diagnosis at face value, moving towards medical interventions while failing to properly screen for underlying issues such as autism, severe depression, or family trauma, which were too often overlooked once a child expressed gender distress. Whistleblowers, internal staff who raised safeguarding concerns and questioned the speed of medicalisation were often dismissed or accused of transphobia.High-profile former patients, most notably Keira Bell, argued in court that they had been too young to give informed consent and felt they had been funnelled down an irreversible medical path. Law firms have since organised group litigation representing hundreds of individuals who claim they were misdiagnosed and suffered long-term medical harm. The final Cass Review described systemic failures around the treatment of thousands of minors with puberty-blocking drugs, including a lack of long-term tracking of health outcomes, cognitive impacts and detransition rates. These failures ultimately contributed to the NHS closing the clinic in early 2024.This is just one of many examples of what is happening here. And just as in Corinth, people need Hope, Truth, Light and Life from God.<h3>The harvest</h3>Once Paul’s financial burden lifted, the harvest in Corinth was remarkable: even Crispus, the synagogue leader, came to Christ, and Jesus himself assured Paul in a vision, “I have many people in this city.” During that stay he also found time to write 1 and 2 Thessalonians. None of that would have been possible on tent-making income alone.My own experience echoes his. When God provides through his people, ministry flourishes. True, hard work has its place—but so does rest, partnership and the humility to receive.

This section showcases my work in war-torn areas, protecting children from domestic abuse, fighting human trafficking and child sexual exploitation, and confronting modern slavery. With trusted friends in several countries, I’ve helped set up safe shelters for children and other projects, and put donors directly in touch with frontline teams just when support was needed most.

When God tells you what to do, you can’t hesitate. – – so says Vampiro, a former cartel money-launderer, in conversation with ex-CIA agent Tim Ballard as they rescue children from sex trafficking. The line features in the hard-hitting film Sound of Freedom, where Jim Caviezel (also The Passion of the Christ) plays Tim Ballard. Vampiro’s tale is a modern Saul-to-Paul conversion. After realising that the woman he had slept with was a trafficked fourteen-year-old, he saw the darkness he’d been funding and knew he deserved death. With a loaded .45 pressed to his head he was seconds from suicide when he encountered God. Instead of pulling the trigger he felt compelled to act, dedicating his life to buying children out of slavery and rescuing them from traffickers. Child sex trafficking turns over about $100 billion a year—roughly the entire sum the US has sent to Ukraine. As T. Ballard notes, it is on track to eclipse even the illegal arms and drugs trade: You can sell a bag of cocaine once; a five-year-old child can be sold five or ten times a day, for ten years. This is deeply disturbing, but the biggest markets are not totalitarian countries with evil regimes, but the USA and other Western, so-called christian countries, including, of course, the UK, EU, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Sound of Freedom sat on the shelf for five years because Hollywood blocked its release. The stalemate broke only when Mel Gibson and Denzel Washington urged the public to see it, exposing an evil some powerful actors, politicians and tech giants prefer to hide. When I shared Tim Ballard’s story with a men’s group in London, I expected the question, What can I do? How can I help? Instead someone said, I’m not sure I wanted you to show me this. When God tells you what to do, you can’t hesitate. –– The line features in the hard-hitting film Sound of Freedom, where Jim Caviezel (also The Passion of the Christ) plays Tim Ballard.Vampiro’s tale is a modern Saul-to-Paul conversion. After realising that the woman he had slept with was a trafficked fourteen-year-old, he saw the darkness he’d been funding and knew he deserved death. With a loaded .45 pressed to his head he was seconds from suicide when he encountered God. Instead of pulling the trigger he felt compelled to act, dedicating his life to buying children out of slavery and rescuing them from traffickers.Child sex trafficking turns over about $100 billion a year—roughly the entire sum the US has sent to Ukraine. As T. Ballard notes, it is on track to eclipse even the illegal arms and drugs trade: You can sell a bag of cocaine once; a five-year-old child can be sold five or ten times a day, for ten years.This is deeply disturbing, but the biggest markets are not totalitarian countries with evil regimes, but the USA and other Western, so-called christian countries, including, of course, the UK, EU, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.Sound of Freedom sat on the shelf for five years because Hollywood blocked its release. The stalemate broke only when Mel Gibson and Denzel Washington urged the public to see it, exposing an evil some powerful actors, politicians and tech giants prefer to hide.When I shared Tim Ballard’s story with a men’s group in London, I expected the question, What can I do? The hero has to be a monster is a highly controversial title, in the same way that the title of my dear friend Phil’s book, Kill Your Art, is highly controversial. What I would say is that the hero first has to realise that he was a monster — and understand who he used to follow back then. Then he has to realise who he is now, after being born again, and who he should follow from now on. What I observe is that many Christian men have become softened, passive and emasculated. They are not happy about it, but they seem to believe that Jesus was like that, so they do their best to become the same. At the same time, mainstream agendas around so-called hate crime and hate speech have become so broad that someone can be arrested in the supposed centre of free speech in London — Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park — simply for daring to say that, according to the Bible, homosexual practice is sinful and reflects a deep spiritual brokenness. My meetings with men have helped them realise that we are born as boys and infants, and unless we deliberately focus on becoming men, we remain infants — as many men do, including some of the most famous ones. These meetings have also helped reveal, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, what kind of man Jesus really was, and how we can and should become more like Him. CVO is a large-scale production that takes an unconventional approach, speaking the language of culture by screening the 1922 silent film Nosferatu on Hallowe’en, accompanied by a live orchestra. Most non-believers wouldn’t dream of going to church that night, but they’ll happily head to a theatre to watch a vampire film.In this story, right in the middle of the nightmare—when much of the town has died under the vampire’s curse and scientists insist it’s an epidemic, or rats (perhaps bats?) — the heroine, Ellen, finds in an ancient book that only the willing sacrifice of an innocent can break the curse, banish the darkness and destroy the supposedly ‘immortal’ villain. She does exactly that, saving the whole town.Whether the filmmakers in 1922 intended such an overt parallel with Christ is hard to say, but the modern response is telling: When the conductor asks the audience afterwards, Who is Ellen?, someone always shouts, Jesus! That tells us the message has clearly landed, and the language we’re using is being understood. CVO has been leading more and more people to salvation.

There’s a good chance you’re here because you know me, and if you do, you’ll know that God has been so gracious to me that I’ve experienced extraordinary situations similar to those we read about in The Acts.In a world where so many people are losing hope, including Christians, I can’t keep them just to myself. Around 2019, I was driving through one of the cities in the EU on my way to a meeting at City Hall with the Director of the Culture Department. At the time, I was the founder and president of a charitable foundation and the manager of the NEO-Lazarus Cultural Centre in the heart of the city.It was around 30°C outside. I saw road workers laying asphalt. So-called mastic asphalt, or Gussasphalt, is usually applied at a temperature of between 220°C and 250°C. Hot-mix asphalt can be processed at lower temperatures, but not below 127°C. You can imagine the intense heat those workers were feeling.When I arrived at City Hall, I realised it was closed. At the entrance, there was a notice saying that, due to the high temperatures, City Hall was closed. I had spent many hours before in that old City Hall building and I knew it was a historic, castle-like place with very thick walls, so even in rooms without air conditioning, it still felt reasonably comfortable.Straight away, those workers came back to my mind. City Hall officials were most likely considered a better class of people. Nobody seemed to care about the temperature or the discomfort of the road labourers. I drove back home wondering why I had air conditioning in my car and could return home in comfort, while those people had to suffer in the heat. Was it because I was educated, trained, skilled and experienced in intellectual work — creating strategies, reaching places, being a pioneer, pushing boundaries and leading teams?On Mother’s Day this year, as we do every year, I got in touch with my siblings abroad and we had a video call with our mum. It is a lovely surprise for her every single year. One of them, who works abroad in the design industry, said it was too hot to sit and work at the computer. It was 27°C there. Here it was 34°C, and I was working outdoors.It is not physically easy, but the biggest challenge is keeping your mind under control. It is so easy to become confused when you know there are so many people waiting for you to spend time with them and pray with them, and even missionary organisations have offered you cooperation, but you cannot do it because you have to earn money to pay the bills. You have to work, even doing things that are not only uncomfortable, but also put your mental health at risk.So you pray. Every minute, you pray for wisdom to know what to do and what not to do, and for the strength to keep going. You also pray for even the tiniest cloud, like the one Elijah saw after years without rain. You know you need rain. You know your ground is as dry as a forest in a drought, and yet you also know you have the promise of green pastures and the Promised Land. You can almost see it through the eyes of faith, but for now, you have to keep fighting to survive.After one year in the desert, you thought it was probably training. After three years, you thought it was probably a test. After five years, you thought it was probably an attack from the devil. After seven years, you accepted that God can do whatever He wants, and that you have to remain silent. After ten years, you decide it is better not to think too much at all, and simply focus on surviving.You think about the armour of God. You check it. You pray for it. You ask yourself how Joseph mentally survived his time in prison, where most prisoners unfortunately left dead. You ask yourself whether John the Baptist kept loving his cousin and Father God after he realised he was going to be executed. You ask yourself how it was even possible that Jesus mentally survived all His years on earth, knowing very well where His life was leading. How did He not fall apart? You want to learn from Him how not to fall apart.A scaffold, a hose connected to a compressor, and a mixture of sand and water used to clean façades with such force that if you put your hand under it, you would be left with bones, without skin or muscle. Sometimes, using highly concentrated sulphuric acid, you feel you do not have enough physical or mental strength to keep up the pace.But your colleague on the scaffold is running, practically dancing. You wonder where he gets the energy from. You watch him. Finally, you jokingly ask whether he is on amphetamines or speed. And he, grinning from ear to ear, says that he is, and that he would gladly sell some to you. You see another friend negotiating the price. You wonder how you are supposed to keep up with this pace. You know you cannot. At least, not on your own.Another day, you are standing on a hill of organic waste at an organic landfill, working outside all day in full sun, in temperatures of around 35°C. You smell that terrible odour, like manure or worse — something no picture or video could ever fully show. Once again, you know you are too tired, physically and mentally, to work ten or twelve hours like that. But you have to, in order to pay your bills and cover your missionary expenses.Educated, trained, skilled and experienced in intellectual work — creating strategies, reaching places, being a pioneer, pushing boundaries and leading teams — you find yourself doing physical labour...And then, finally, it hits you. Who reminded you of that phrase? Was it just your brain, or something more sophisticated? Or someone?“(...) We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage of the world — right up to this moment.” 1 Corinthians 4:13And then you finally realise what he may have meant when he said it.

Can you pray?– Hi Casper, my child is 16, stays in a dark room all the time, barely leaves the house, has stopped going to school, and I keep hearing repeated comments about self-harm. The children at school don’t like my child. I’ve lost control. I’m exhausted and confused. I’m praying to God for a miracle. Can you help us? Could you meet with us and talk to my child?– My father is having heart surgery tomorrow. I know I’ve told you many times that I don’t believe the Bible is authentic, but could you please pray? I know your prayers matter. I would be very grateful.– Our teenager has decided to start hormone treatment and then have gender surgery. I don’t know who has taken my child away from me. I can’t recognise my own child any more. Can you please pray?– Casper! It’s incredible! It’s extraordinary! I’m calling you before I even call my partner! You prayed, and the PET scan results show that I no longer have cancer. Can you hear me? God heard your prayer! I’m going to live!– Can I come on Saturday with my sons? Can we continue our meetings and Bible study? I know you’re busy, but I would really appreciate it.– My child keeps waking up during the night, scared of shadows and the dark. Could you please say a word to God about that?– My child has to make a decision about college. I don’t know anyone else she would trust in terms of understanding her world, music and culture. She thinks everyone else is biased. Could you please come and talk to her, and perhaps also have a look at the artwork she has made?– I have to tell you, I was so scared that I'm gonna loose her. Even though I’m nearly 40, I cried like a baby. I was terrified she was going to die. But today I’m so thankful. After all the diagnoses, it turns out she is no longer ill. She is full of energy, and her hair has grown back even stronger. Do you understand? This is amazing!– I really want to call and talk to you again. I want you to tell me more about the identity we have in Christ. I really need it. I haven’t heard this before, and I know I need it.– My child has become addicted to alcohol and drugs. We don’t know what to do. We thought we could trust our child, but I’ve realised our child has been systematically stealing from us to get money to buy these things. I already called the police, and I thought my child would be scared enough, but it didn’t help. I’m losing my child. What do you think I should do?– My child is ill, and we are waiting for risky surgery. Our child is only five. We are so afraid, but the specialist said we can’t wait. Could you please pray?– Time flies. Our child misses you, and we miss you too. Could we please arrange a proper time to meet and talk?– Thank you so much for texting. I’m so glad you remembered me. I’m tired and not very strong, which is no surprise at the age of 85, especially after chemotherapy.This is what the text inbox on my personal phone looks like. There is no one besides God who knows all these people. Some of them know one or two others, but most of them do not know each other. It’s hard to say why so many people see me as someone they can trust for advice, support and prayer. I also cannot understand how it is possible that I don’t feel overwhelmed.I pray for all of them, and for each of them individually. I love meeting them, talking with them, spending time with them, listening to them and getting to know them even better. There is only one thing I dislike: when I don’t have the time or money to serve these people. I really don’t like it when I have to focus on paying bills and, because of a lack of financial resources, I can’t support those in need.I dream and pray that God’s will, as it is in Heaven, would be done in this area too. I am praying for a breakthrough.

<h3>A Regular Day</h3>My life as a missionary is a blend of spiritual dedication and practical challenges. A typical day begins with a prayer walk around the lake, where I worship God and seek guidance and strength for the tasks ahead.The rest of the day is usually demanding. I work on paid projects to cover my bills, and often work even more to cover the necessary costs of supporting the people and initiatives I am involved with. I am connected with several churches, missionary organisations, local communities and private individuals. Flexibility, empathy, understanding and patience are essential. Plans often change because of cultural events, urgent needs or unforeseen circumstances. <h3>Behind the Scenes</h3>Beyond the visible activities, a missionary’s work involves considerable personal sacrifice, including time away from family, financial pressure and emotional struggles. Understanding the cost is vital for anyone considering this path.Yet the commitment comes from a deep conviction that the true Gospel goes beyond human institutions and traditions. The daily discipline of nurturing new disciples and embodying Christ’s love in different cultural settings is both challenging and deeply fulfilling. The reward is seeing lives transformed by the Gospel and new believers growing in their faith.
